Emily Cruz, Assistant General Manager · Canteen
Emily is originally from Fond du Lac, WI. She moved to Madison to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Madison in Interior Architecture. While working at a restaurant in college, Emily met her husband who also works in the restaurant business. They decided to stay in Madison, start a family, and explore the industry here. “I love seeing the regulars come back time and time again. It means we are doing something right and really fosters a sense of community. I love working in Madison because there are so many awesome events that are very unique to the city. It's a pleasure to watch the community thrive and to be able to be a part of it as a restaurant and a Madisonian.” Emily likes working for Food Fight because the company is constantly growing and finding ways to improve. She says that menus change and the restaurants usually have something new and fresh to try. “I really enjoy working for Food Fight because the group has reached so many different areas in the Madison and surrounding Madison areas. Instead of just opening a restaurant in any neighborhood, Food Fight surveys the neighborhood. They find out what the style, values, and ways of life are like in that area and then ask themselves what that neighborhood needs. That mindset is user-centered design at its core and it is something that contributes largely to the success of Food Fight and its restaurants.” When Emily isn’t busy at the restaurant she enjoys spending time with her family. She has an eight-year-old stepson who she says is a spitting image of his father. Emily and her husband will soon have their first child together; they also have three cats. In her free time Emily loves to do yoga, paint, read, try new food, and go thrift shopping. She loves the live music scene in Madison and tries to take advantage of seeing live music whenever possible.
